"IWC gets off to a powerful start in 2012 _ the year of pilot's watches for us," said Goris O. F. Verburg, managing director of IWC Schaffhausen Southeast Asia. "We have entered the age of super-sonic flight thanks to the Top Gun line which has been completely reworked with more manufacturer movements and uplifted details."

Heading up the professional pilot's watches is the new 2012 Top Gun collection. And in the vanguard is the new Miramar line, inspired by the spirit of the original Marine Corps Top Gun flight school in Miramar, California.

"The new Miramar line picks up on elements of the military design," said Verburg. The shimmering metallic ceramic case and the anthracite-coloured dial lean on the typical colour and material repertoire as do the hands and chapter ring in beige and the green textile strap. The separate depiction of the minutes in the outer ring and the hours on a smaller inner ring is reminiscent of the deck watches of the 1930s and 1940s. Back then, the aircraft position and flight time were determined with the aid of octants and deck watches.
