    Last year’s NATO’s intervention in Libya, which led to the crumbling of the Muammar Qaddafi regime, contributed hugely to the current situation in Mali as well as to the uncertainty prevailing in both Burkina Faso and Niger, according to analysts of Sahelian geopolitics.

    The recent Malian events - the ousting of the internationally-respected President Amadou Toumani Touré (ATT) and the Tuareg rebellion which “liberated” the country’s north - could have wider ramifications across the west African and Sahelian regions.
