Now more than two years, the iPhone 3G is still a hot seller thanks to a strong reduction offered by Apple and AT & T. It's a brilliant move by both companies: Apple gets to tap into a new base price sensitive consumers, while AT & T gets to sign up more customers to its more expensive data plans.
But it can not be the wiser for the consumer. The iPhone 3G has a slower processor than even mid-market smartphones on the market.His older design means it can not take advantage of features like video calling FaceTime, and it is not clear how it will run the next version of IOS; old iPhones have been known to run into difficulty when they upgrade.
Yet people want their iPhones, regardless of the form. AT & T said yesterday that it activated 3.6 million iPhones during the quarter. Although the company does not break how each iPhone has done, you can be sure of the low-end version is given a boost healthy. Verizon Wireless, which sells the iPhone 4, announced today that it sold 2.3 million smartphones such at the time.
