    Tiny new glass lens paves way for projectors in smartphones

    Smartphones that we carry in our pockets are very versatile machines. They used to the size of a brick, required a separate battery, and only made calls. Now they fit in the palm of your hand, does HD video, surf the Web, play games, hold gigabytes of data and carry out day on a single battery charge. Manufacturers continue to add features too, NFC with new technology being the last to be introduced gradually to make payment arrangements, and who knows what's next.

    A potential future edition is the inclusion of a projector module.This would allow the video to be projected on a wall as a 60-inch HD output, for example, may be even greater. The problem with adding features is one of size, power and heat. When the projector components are too large, they require a lot of power and generate heat. This makes them unsuitable for inclusion in the tiny cramped housing of an iPhone or Droid.
