About "La Madeleine"
The music of "La Madeleine" was inspired by the Gnostic gospels discovered at Nag Hammadi in Egypt in 1945. It follows the story of Mary Magdalene as told in the Gospels of Thomas and Mary, are not included in the Christian Bible.
Previously derided as a prostitute, Mary Magdalene is portrayed more as the wife of Yeshua, Jesus, "the woman who knew it all, the apostle to the apostles." The show follows her journey to discover the meaning of her life as she challenges the traditional role of women established by the Church and the Roman Empire.
The show was composed by Casper College professor Jim Olm and co-written by Olm and JC Hanley. It is directed by Casper College Professor Burk Rich, Tony winner Richard Maltby Jr. as a creative consultant.
