From him the bragging rights of having a collection of this size (although I am aware there are many people with libraries that put mine to shame). Cut my library? Why not cut my ankles and feed the tendons rabid porcupine?
I put on my helmet and went about my day.
But the question of what to do with my lack of space stung my expansion. An epic crash laptop two years ago left me with a split-music library that have survived on my iPod, and all I had to retransfer / re-rip / buy etc. I decided to make the unthinkable-re-sync my iPod to my current library.
I let go of a lot of files, all the bootleg live recordings of concerts Calgary Wind Ensemble at the beginning of Dream Theater albums in the Lord of the Rings soundtrack. I have gotten myself an extra 8GB of space.
I then quickly imported two new albums.
As much as I like to think it's a step in the direction of musical minimalism, stripping my library and the only thing I hear, it's a bloody lie. This just buys me more time, and I know.As far as women hold irrational tweed miniskirts and leggings in neon yellow from 1986, when I cling to the music, my safety, my blankie, my badge of authority. Who knows when I might have to bust on an album of the Spice Girls to host a day of work or prove my musical diversity by putting on after Metallica Metric? My iPod has become a life raft laden with all the provisions of emergency, to a Restoration Hardware catalog to coordinate rowlocks with screws. And I can not quite let go. You never know when you'll need the kitchen sink backing perfect soundtrack for your day.And while I grimace at the cut, it gives me the opportunity to rediscover the albums that I had to temporarily part with.
