Like most large high-tech companies, Apple applied for many patents. We saw all sorts of things revealed in documents filed before, from text-to-speech technologies for the iPhone displays diminutive integrated into the Magic Mouse. Apple has clearly identified yet another application, this induction system for a load.
This is a rather simple: the charging base is equipped with a cylindrical tower around which an iPod or iPhone headphone cord can be wrapped. That in turn form an induction coil, which creates a magnetic field that can charge the internal battery of the device. This is actually the power demand associated second patent we've seen from Apple recently. Last month, the short-range wireless charging system was revealed.
Perhaps I have not been getting the full charge into my little Nano. I have some field tests planned for it once my new power block and power cord arrives. I can say for sure the features that are used play a BIG part in how long the Nano's battery does last. I used the stop watch and the timer during my breaks and lunch to make sure I am always on time back to my desk. If I forget to turn off a stop watch it seems to burn some functionality. Leaving music playing is a real fear as well. The options for a song is play or pause. I have yet to see a true stop button. As soon as I play a song after unplugging the Nano from my computer the battery is maintaining the paused position even when I am not using the Nano for anything but a watch. I am absolutely certain that burns battery.
