whats the best way to play digital video files on my tv?

i have alot of digital video files on my pc which i transfered them to a 1TB external hard drive. I than hooked the external hard drive to my lg BD390 bluray player via the usb input.

the videos play, "divx, avi, mpeg, mkv, mp4, etc..."
